  1. Geerhardus Vos on pg. 77 of his Biblical Theology (banner of Truth Edition, 1975) argues that El Elyon is equivalent with Yahweh, so Melchizedek shouldn’t be considered a priest of pagan gods. Henry Ainsworth provides some additional information on Melchizedek in his annotations on the Pentateuch which he wrote in the 17th century, it is available for free on google books (see page 65 &66 of vol.1 for his discussion of Melchizedek, and he discusses various rabbinic interpretations as well):
